Youth Art Camp Week 4: July 13-17, 2020

MORNING CAMPS

9:00am – 1:00pm

Book Worms  (ages 4-7)

Will your two fish be blue fish? Curious George, Cat in the Hat, and other youth stories will inspire us to create, with drawing, sculpture, and paint! Instructor: Cat Lloyd

Make Your Own Toy  (ages 4-7)

Make art you can keep playing with! This multi-media camp will explore techniques from clay sculpting to simple fabric sewing. Students will create creatures and character dolls as fascinating as their imaginations! Instructor: Lexi Melton

Drawing From Life 101  (ages 8-11)

This class will teach students the art of careful observation in order to accurately draw the three-dimensionality of objects from the real world. Students will observe the natural world and learn to pay attention to the nuanced details we normally miss. Students will explore different drawing mediums including graphite, charcoal, and ink. Instructor: Sarah Jane Ballentine


AFTERNOON CAMPS

1:00pm – 4:00pm)

Claymation 101  (ages 8-11)

Students will explore the fascinating process of stop-motion animation to make their own short films. Using a variety of materials such as armatures, fabric, and clay, they will create their own storyline and flex their creative muscles. Instructor: Lexi Melton

Yarn Bomb!  (ages 8 & up)

Yarn bombing is an international community building art sensation: From the parks of Belgium to the trees in front of Sumter Gallery! Come learn the yarn wrapping techniques that turn small ornaments into bold works of public art. Students will explore God’s Eyes, mandalas, string letters, hoops, and silhouettes. Instructor: Ashley Stancil

Basics of Oil Painting  (ages 11 & up)

Explore the basics of oil painting techniques! We will learn about the paints, brushes, different mediums required, and application techniques, including the palette knife. Students will complete one 9 x 12 inch stretched canvas painting as well as smaller technique studies. Instructor: Sarah Jane Ballentine
