Youth Art Camp Week 7: August 3-7, 2020

COVID-19 UPDATE (as of June 10th, 2020):

We at the gallery have been following the steady increase of daily COVID cases in our community and state and have made the tough but responsible decision to cancel Summer Art Camp. Those who have preregistered and paid will receive a full refund. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility during these uncertain times, but the safety of your children and our staff comes first. We look forward to serving our youth and adults through a wonderful array of art classes this fall.

9:00am – 12:00pm

Painting Paradise  (ages 6-7)

This is the perfect class for budding painters. Students will be introduced to various painting styles and techniques in a fun and engaging way with lots of room for imaginative expression. Instructor: Connie Brennan

Masked Celebrations  (ages 6-7)

This camp explores the masquerade culture of events like Mardi Gras, Day of the Dead, or the abstract faces by Picasso. Working with a variety of media, students will also make a clay-based mask embellished with wire, beads, ribbons, and feathers. Instructor: Sonia Neale

Make Your Own Toy  (ages 8 & up)

Make art you can keep playing with! This multi-media camp will explore techniques from clay sculpting to simple fabric sewing. Students will create creatures and character dolls as fascinating as their imaginations! Instructor: Lexi Melton

1:00pm – 4:00pm

Creative Painting  (ages 8 & up)

Explore painting with a twist! Students will create vivid dreamscapes populated by butterflies, angels, lizards and rich flora using a variety of techniques including creating texture, incorporating precise stencils, and combining color. Instructor: Connie Brennan

Youth Pottery  (ages 8 & up)

Students will learn the basics of making functional ceramics using the pottery wheel and hand-building techniques to create decorative pieces and whimsical animals. Glazing, surface decoration, and the “magic” of the kiln to create vibrant shiny surfaces will also be explored. Instructor: Sonia Neale
